Orvieto
We were excited to be on our way to Rome, but first we
stopped for lunch and a wine tasting at Le Vellette Vineyard. Cecilia's family has owned and operated Le Vellette for several
generations.
As on the Rick Steves video on Italian hill towns, Cecilia led the tour
throughout the vineyard. With Cecilia
leading the way, the place really felt like home.
It was everything one imagines of a rustic vineyard from the rows of grape vines, to the large main house, to the laundry drying on the line. There was even a small church next to the big house. On the next hill over from the vineyard, you could see the large church dominating the town of Orvieto.

The Group |
As a tour group, we decided that this would be a great place to take a group photo. We did one serious photo, one calling for the infamous 'buddy check,' and then the rain came!
Buddy checks are Rick's way of ensuring that everyone is accounted for without the time or grade school feel of taking roll. On the first night of the tour we 'buddy up' with someone we didn't travel with. When 'buddy check' is called either aloud or silently with "little bunny foo-foo ears," everyone looks for their buddy to make sure everyone is still with us. |
